Over the last decade, I've become more and more, a birder.
At the very least, they give me a reason to paint.

Scarlet Tanager. Watercolor.

Downy Woodpecker. Fun to watch. Watercolor.

This is a Pine Warbler, I believe. I was, as always, using my photos as reference and I had captured the little fella from every angle. So, I set forth to render him from all angles. It made no sense to have the little warbler standing together like that, so I made each of him a different color. So, then I was left with a canvas of a roll of warbler Lifesavers. It clearly needed something and I find that a crown implies a lot or a little, depending on the viewer. Artist Walter Anderson's daughter Mary purchased it as it reminded her of her daughter who left us some time ago. Oil on Canvas.

I consider this one unfinished and it was purchased. I foresee me doing it again. I simply liked the whimsey of umbrellas blowing in after a storm and a chicken and her baby using the opportunity to find safe harbor. Acrylic on Wood.

Green herons are one of the strangest birds, visually. I was quite relieved to have made a nice one here. Watercolor.

Perfunctory Warbler. Shy. I see about one a season. Watercolor.

The Carolina Wren might be my favorite. Infinitely curious. Loud. They maintain a healthy amount of concern. All these qualities add up to 'funny'. Also, they sleep most anywhere. Oil on wood.
